Felipe Montealegre-Mora
Felipe Montealegre-Mora is a Postdoctoral researcher at the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Center for Data Science and Environment at UC Berkeley (DSE). Coming from a theoretical physics and computational background, Felipe is interested in applying statistical and AI methodologies to understanding environmental processes. He is particularly interested in developing both fundamental research as well as digital infrastructure that can aid indigenous sovereignty and indigenous environmental stewardship.
His past work has focused on developing reinforcement learning (RL) approaches for complex control problems arising in fishery science and conservation. Here, RL is used as a flexible framework in which to explore quantitative policy optimization beyond simplified models.
In his free time, Felipe enjoys playing music (piano and guitar mainly, but any instrument will put a smile on his face), reading and rock climbing.
