McKalee Steen
McKalee Steen is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and a PhD candidate in the Environmental Science, Policy, and Management Department at UC Berkeley. Her work sits at the intersection of Indigenous Environmental Studies, land use change studies, and spatial data science. She focuses on Indigenous stewardship practices, supporting Indigenous youth through resource development, and harnessing the power of storytelling.
As part of DSE's Indigenous Environmental Stewardship project, McKalee will apply data science methodologies to analyze the social and ecological impacts of Indigenous practices. Additionally, she will conduct research on Indigenous Data Sovereignty, contributing to a deeper understanding of its applications in environmental stewardship.
