Lucia Layritz
Lucia is a Postdoctoral researcher with the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Center for Data Science and Environment at UC Berkeley, where she supports the National Park Service Climate Change Decision Support project. Lucia studies the impact of climate change on ecosystem regeneration after disturbances, including wildfires and human-made disruptions such as armed conflicts. By integrating ecosystem and climate modeling, remote sensing, and statistical analysis, her work aims to inform future strategies for climate adaptation and ecological resilience.
Lucia obtained her PhD in Life Science from the Technical University of Munich. She holds master’s degrees in Mathematical Modeling from King’s College London, UK, in Environmental Science and Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, and has conducted research and academic stays at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, Germany, and the American University of Beirut, Lebanon.
Passionate about science communication and visualization, Lucia currently serves as the chief editor of the European Geoscience Union’s Biogeosciences blog, and is always in search of guest authors interested in writing for the blog.
